How to create your own music?

You do not need to know music. A music is made of blocks (small pieces of a few bars) that you place on 4 tracks: Melody, Chords, Bass and Drums. The sounds are real instruments (piano, soft strings, bass, drums), free to use (CC0): you can use your music in games you sell.

You need:

Step 1: open the tool

  1. Open the Assets window (Resources panel).
  2. At the top, touch the Music button, next to Animations and Title styles.
  3. Touch ▶ Play at any time to hear what you have; touch it again to stop.
👉 Your work is kept as a draft: you can close the tool and come back with Open.

Step 2: place blocks

  1. Touch + Block. The ready-made blocks are sorted by style (Calm, Action, Mystery, Joyful, Dungeon, Pirate, Sad). Touch ▶ next to a block to hear it, then touch its line to add it.
  2. Your blocks appear under "My blocks". Touch one to choose it, then touch a cell of its track to place it. To scroll the grid, slide your finger on it.
  3. To remove a block, touch it then ✕ Remove, or choose the Eraser and touch it.
  4. Change the speed with the ♩ button and the length with the bars button. Tick Loop so the music restarts without any cut.
  5. Touch a placed block: a small window opens with its volume, ✎ Edit and ✕ Remove. To move it, keep your finger pressed on it (the device vibrates), then slide it.
👉 A block only goes on its own track (a drum block on the Drums track). On the Melody and Chords tracks, touch the track name to change the instrument (piano or strings). Each track has its own volume slider (under its name) and each placed block has its own too: you can turn the drums down, or just one block. Touch the numbers ruler at the top of the grid to choose where listening starts.

Step 3: make your own block

  1. Touch + Block, then ✎ Create my own block…, and choose the track and the length.
  2. In the note editor, touch to place a note, slide to the right to make it longer, touch a note again to remove it.
  3. No idea? Touch Give me an idea: Yop2D proposes notes that always sound good. Touch Keep when you like it.

Step 4: create the sound and play it

  1. Touch Create the sound (.ogg), give it a name and choose the Sounds folder (or one of its sub-folders).
  2. When it is ready, touch Use this music, or keep editing.
  3. In the Blueprint, add “Play music” (for example right after the start event) and choose your music: it plays like any other music.
👉 The .ogg file is a normal sound of your project: it is exported with your game, even offline.
